Great British Business Brand Identity Design
We designed and developed Great British Business’ visual identity from the ground up, building authority, trust and value for one of Britain’s newest trust marks. From discovery and research to concept development, refinement and final delivery, we created the distinctive logo and visual identity GBB needed to appeal to the UK's 4.2 million service-based businesses.
Designing Authority from Scratch for Great British Business
Who Are Great British Business?
Great British Business is a new accreditation scheme giving UK service-based companies an accessible, recognisable and trustworthy way to convey their British provenance to global customers. With no standing or history to rely on, GBB needed a logo and visual identity to signal trust and build authority. A visual identity that enables them to communicate with everyone from owners and directors of SMEs, to professionals in large organisations. And a logo that’s instantly recognisable across all physical and digital touch points.
How Uncommon Blue Helped
We kicked things off with discovery, working directly with GBB to analyse the competitive landscape, and emerging with two key personas. The cocoon that would grow the concept:
A growth-minded SME founder
A time-poor procurement manager
The design went through seven rounds of updates, playing with the Union Jack colour palette to settle on a design that worked. But that’s not the end. GBB’s visual identity was tested across eight real-world applications, from websites to mobile devices, tote bags to signage, to make sure it held up. It did. The outcome was a polished, production-ready logo pack designed for digital or physical use, licensing and trademarking. The distinctive stag silhouette is set within a bold rectangular badge, giving off a unique and memorable blend of Britishness and authority, modernity and reliability.
